Lines are not always clearly defined between work and life.  I’m a great believer in mixing the two to a certain degree – but not all the time.  Photography allows me to do this when I’m traveling for work.  On my current business trip, I’m visiting customers in west Wales; the first time I’m this far west on the British Isles.

Over the past three years, I’ve visited Sens about eight times.  Most of my trips were in winter, which meant it was dark when I left the office in the evening. Other towns have had a better share of my photography time, and I want to change this over my next few visits.

Not the easiest shots I’ve taken recently… especially when wearing a suit! I took these early this morning outside my hotel before heading to our France office in Sens.  It was -3°c and it continued to snow the rest of the day.

Can you hear her?  I certainly can.  She’s singing loud and clear announcing the end of my holiday.  I’ve had a wonderful break and I’m very thankful. Tomorrow is the first day back in the office, and I have over 400 emails to go through.  This excludes silly emails from IT and others – I deleted those once a day from my Blackberry.

I will be ‘offline’ a few days while I do some catching up.  I hope I don’t end up in too many meetings…

One of my first jobs on any London visit is to weed the garden and tidy it up.  There is a tiny garden here, so the job takes one afternoon at most. We visit friends, family and just-go-out-for-the-sake-of-it a lot of the time.  However whenever we do stay in, it’s nice to spend some time outside – think a cup of coffee and a good paper.

Pioneers of the future of the LNG business have been showing off their vessels and floating plants.  They’re presenting new technology in what will be the new world of gas.  Our technology for Loading Arms is second to none – so companies looking for high safety and reliability come to us.  It was a great feeling to see the models of these companies with our loading arms included.  These have all been ordered and the vessels are being built all over the world.

That’s all I’ve done today! We’re exhibiting at Gastech in Abu Dhabi.  Our stand is looking good after our final touches yesterday.  I say final touches but it took us until half past eight in the evening to finish off.  The nice little model you see above was damaged during transit.  It took three hours to fix it!  Business has been bad this year – so this is a good time for this event.

Like many things, The Exhibition Centre in Abu Dhabi is about twenty years ahead of Kuwait!  I love the scale this city works on.  It’s time we started to take the same giant steps!

Take any weekday, take out the six or so hours of sleep, driving around, social visits, shopping, exercise (all three minutes),  and you will quickly find that we spend most of our lives at the office.  I’m very thankful that my office is a nice place to be – especially when I think how long I spend there.  I do my work and my blogging from this room and it has become my little empire.

As nice as my office is, I love the feeling of clearing a long to-do list and walking out of the office, closing the door and turning around.

Thank God for weekends!

Busy with travel, meetings and management visits last week and this week!
