Over two thousand photographers gathered in Trafalgar Square yesterday.  They were ‘fighting’ for their right to take photos in public – without being asked questions.

I’ve recently returned from London, and I must admit it remains the most photographer-friendly city I visit.  I was only ever stopped once, in front of Ealing Townhall, and it wasn’t an unpleasant experience.  The policeman looked at the photos on my camera, I showed him my ID and everyone moved on.  It took less than five minutes.

I’m always interested in the displays on the fourth plinth at Trafalgar Square. Because I’m in London once or twice a year, the art changes nearly every time I revisit.  This time exhibit is somewhat different.  It’s changing constantly.  When I was there earlier this afternoon, this man was reading various messages from the people at the square.

I know the date of this photograph.  Since I can’t see any other clues, I’m testing your fashion knowledge. What year do you think the above photograph was taken?  

The location is Trafalgar Square in London.

Even though we have pigeons at home, we’ve been Londoners long enough to know not to feed the city’s feral pigeons.  With mixed feelings, I also understood the decision to reduce (remove) the pigeons at Trafalgar Square. 

However, everytime I go past the place, I remember the good old days of not being able to wear a white shirt.  With all the health concerns, it’s nice to see the odd stubborn resident around.
