When did you start drinking coffee?

I remember when they started serving it in high school and I started my tradition of the morning cup.  During university years, I lived on Arabic coffee made at home.  I was in London at the time and the endless lines of coffee shops had not yet began forming.  When I moved to Denmark, I recognised what real coffee should taste like.  Instant coffee was no longer acceptable.  I shiver as I write that horrible word “instant”.

Noor is having what they call a baby-cino (Starbucks’ slang for frothed milk).  They don’t recognise the name at Starbucks in Kuwait… So don’t bother. I think it’s a rather clever way to get the children involved when you’re at a cafe – and all they’re having is a cookie and milk.

The reason I chose this photo is Noor’s guaranteed excitement whenever I make coffee at home.  The sound of the grinder, the machine beeping to say “ready” and me appearing out of the kitchen and into the dining room – Noor always greeting me with a wonderful smile.

  1. They don’t recognize the name here because it comes under different names here like: Latte, Cappuccino, Frapeccino, you see…Starbucks serves coffee flavored, steamed milk ;-).

Real coffee is served at all other coffee shops.

She’s adorable msh’Allah. I love your photographs, so lively 🙂
I only started drinking coffee 2 years ago during my undergrad project, haven’t stopped since then. I tried quiting a couple of times, but why bother.

Coffee flavoured steamed milk… The best description I’ve heard about Starbucks… I do like their espresso though. I buy the beans for my machine at home.

Don’t stop drinking coffee (otherwise you’ll have to change your blog address) but everything in moderation…. Good and bad.

Thank you for your comments my faithful readers 🙂

  4. i neva liked coffee in my life, even when i tried to! i forced myself to drink it, end up throwing up everytime… I’, allergic to caffeine but that doesn’t mean i should hate coffee! even the way it smells!

i found out later that my so called mom used to drink coffee nonstop when she was pregnant with me, thas why i’m allergic to caffeine and maybe thas why I can’t stand coffee :/

  5. Eid Mubarak and beautiful photo!

  6. Thank you Abid. Mubarak to you too.

  7. What a sweet photo of Noor! Mash’allah!

I started drinking coffee in high school (or skipping high school) in Germany, where real coffee tasted fabulous. And real cream and real sugar, although the Germans will always tell me it is “uncultured” to drink it any way but straight up.
