I’m not sure who started this “tradition” nor when it all began, but it has become part of our celebrations.  Friends and family have mixed views, but it seems fathers of young children are in agreement.  Seriousness aside, we had a blast.  Noor cried a little when she was “attacked” by a future pick-up driver and both her and Yousef kept reminding me to lock our doors :)

The story was somewhat different when we parked and got out.  It was revenge time…

… it’s the taking apart!  I saw this written on a bill board in London ahead of an England v France rugby match.  One letter and a truely English play on words.

Today, we thrashed the French.  I say we, but it was actually Yousef and the rest of the under fives team.  In fact it wasn’t Yousef at all, it was the rest of his team. Actually it was a couple of the players who knew what they were doing. The rest had no clue where the ball was, and some didn’t even care.  It was great fun to watch and the weather was great considering the start of the week that we’ve had.

The match was part of an annual tournament  between football teams of the BSK and LFK  of all ages.  I’m not sure what all the results were and I really don’t care.  It was great to be part of an energetic and friendly Saturday.

I’ve always found Harley people to be friendly – especially here in Kuwait.  We were having lunch at the Free Zone earlier this afternoon when a group pulled up for a break.  I didn’t hesitate to take the children out to say hello and have a look.  It turned out even better when one of them recognised me.  He’s a good friend and owns the impressive bike photographed above – Mashallah.  He even lent his helmet and sun-glasses for Yousef to pose in.

Thank you Bu AbdelAziz.

After months of reading, learning and planning, today was the day!  This morning we walked just under a mile away from our house and released three homers.

The weather is much better these days and we all took part which made it feel like a special event.  Yousef opened the basket and Noor held it in place.  Um Yousef and I watched and I managed to take these three photographs.

The first bird out was a little reluctant (see photo on the right), but all three were soon high in the sky.  I am yet to see them back home.  I think they’ve been and gone again.

Overall I’m happy to announce a success.  We have lunch with the whole family at my father’s every Friday.  My intention is to build up the distance until we reach a release from there (10km away) some time in February. Watch this space.

From Yousef to Everyone by you.

We walked home yesterday instead of the constant driving.  The children loved it – even more than the funfair we were visiting.  Yousef’s three daisies reflect three things for me: peace, love and HOPE.

I hope your lives are full of all three.

Regent’s Park London

I hate to advertise … but it doesn’t get better than this.

It’s almost Christmas and we’re in London! Where else but Hamleys?  We crossed the road after taking this photo and spent three hours there! THREE HOURS!!

I’m still trying to work out who had more fun…. me or the children?  They behaved so well all the way there – and some of the way back.

Happy 2008.

In the back garden in London and a strange looking creature captures Yousef’s interest.  We had fun with these snails for over an hour.  “Time goes by so slowly….”

The best thing about a garden is when you use it.

It’s now warm enough to start playing with water in the afternoons – soon it will be too hot!  I have to admit, I probably had even more fun than the children did.

This has been one of the most popular photographs of my collection on Flickr. The natural pose and interesting lighting/reflection have created, albeit by a bit of luck, one of my all-time favourites.

This is Yousef at age one.

Happy Birthday.

He is wearing a dishdasha and ghitra. We live in London so it was his first time in these clothes.
