хомяк, pronounced homyak, is Russian for Hamster.  Scabbers, pictured here, is in fact a Russian Hamster.  He lives in Yousef’s school during the week, and stays with different children during weekends.  We have the pleasure of keeping him here for the long weekend!

Kuwait’s Special Forces put on a fun show at Kuwait Towers last Saturday.  It was the first of its kind and a great success.  It started on time (wow) and was very impressive indeed.  Helicopters, men on ropes (often head first) and beautiful use of flag-coloured smoke.

We went bowling on Wednesday.  It was our first time as a family, and I cannot recommend it enough.  No gadgets, no phones, no inturruptions, just good quality family time full of fun with a competitive spirit.

These fruits are an exception to the rule.  Things that taste horrible are usually good for us, and vice versa.  With pomegranates we’re lucky enough to have taste-buds, and health, on the same side. These are Indian pomegranates and they tasted heavenly.  Buy some and enjoy.

I was very pleased to see an event like this hosted in Kuwait.  Unfortunately, on my two attempts of going in to get some shots of the masterpieces, I was unsuccessful. The following weekend would have been the perfect time to return, but I was busy and a little discouraged.  Organisers: Next time… please ensure the security staff are informed of opening times!  The correct opening times.

Over two thousand photographers gathered in Trafalgar Square yesterday.  They were ‘fighting’ for their right to take photos in public – without being asked questions.

I’ve recently returned from London, and I must admit it remains the most photographer-friendly city I visit.  I was only ever stopped once, in front of Ealing Townhall, and it wasn’t an unpleasant experience.  The policeman looked at the photos on my camera, I showed him my ID and everyone moved on.  It took less than five minutes.

The weather has been very warm for this time of year.  For me, this makes a great change after the freezing two weeks I had abroad.  Coupled with the heavy rain we had last month, the warm period has meant an explosion in these beautiful flowers. They are quite literarily everywhere you look…

I’m out of the snow and back home today.  It’s around 20ºc in Kuwait, which is a welcomed change for me.  This was London yesterday.  I woke up to a white blanket all over London Town.   Lucky my flight was late evening, and the weather calmed down considrable,  Apart from a twenty minute delay for de-icing, the rest of the flight was perfect.

Last week, I was on the DLR looking out at great views of the place that runs the world’s money.  It had been a few years since I was in the City, so I stopped to take a couple of quick shots.  It still surprises me how much, and how little, this place impresses me.

I lived in London for more than fifteen years, but this was the heaviest accumulation of snow I’ve seen.  My trip has changed and I’m back in London over the weekend for some meetings during the week.  Colleagues, new to London, were asking me what to do on Saturday morning.  I offered shopping, but they preferred to join me on my ‘photo walk’.

Not the easiest shots I’ve taken recently… especially when wearing a suit! I took these early this morning outside my hotel before heading to our France office in Sens.  It was -3°c and it continued to snow the rest of the day.

I’m in London, so I did some shopping last night. What’s great about being in a city you know, is that the hassle of finding things goes away.  I had a free couple of hours this morning and my plan was simple… To step out of the hotel, and go to the first gallery/museum/show that appeared on the side of a bus.

With many hundreds of business cards collected from various people around the world, we needed an idea.  Although I didn’t intentionally collect the cards, they filled two boxes which had started showing cracks.  The thing is: once I’ve scanned the cards, they’re useless… but throwing them out felt too easy.

A few years ago, my wife told me how fascinating she found other people’s homes to be. She told me how she would ‘always have a quick peek’ as she walked past the houses, looking for a snapshot of the dwellwers’ lives.  Anyone who likes photography will understand the concept of ‘always looking’… and ever since my wife shared this with me, I can think of nothing else  as I drive/walk by an open curtain.  Awful – isn’t it?

I returned from a business trip earlier this evening, and I saw our Christmas tree from outside as I pulled my car onto the drive.  Our living room is on the first floor, so I took this shot from the balcony.

Merry Christmas

The perfect Saturday afternoon with a lovely barbeque lunch.  Chicken legs, burgers, lamb kebab and… my favourite sausages.  On the side: salads, chips and oven-baked rice.  All this washed down with slow-brewed tea, and Arabic coffee.
